sweet Coneflower
Rudbeckia subtomentosa
Sweet Coneflower, also known as Sweet Black-Eyed Susan is a tall, graceful native perennial that brings glowing yellow blooms to the late-summer and fall garden. Reaching 4–6 feet, it features soft, subtly fragrant foliage and classic daisy-like flowers with dark central cones that are characteristic of other Black-Eyed Susan or Rudbeckia species. Tough, adaptable, and drought-tolerant once established, it thrives in full sun and naturalistic plantings. While it prefers moderately moist and well-drained soils, it’s tolerant of sandy, clay, and poor soils too. Sweet Coneflower may be good choices for people desiring a taller and more long-lived version of regular Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta).
